The treatment plant will handle 10,600 cubic metres of industrial wastewater per hour at the Sucuriú project.
Veolia has secured a contract to design and implement an industrial effluent treatment plant for Arauco’s new pulp mill in Inocência, Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil, according to its announcement dated 2 November 2026.
Arauco’s $4.6-billion Sucuriú project is scheduled to start operations in late 2027, with annual production capacity of 3.5 million tonnes of short-fibre pulp. The investment figure refers to the overall mill; Veolia did not disclose its contract value.
The wastewater plant will combine moving bed bioreactor technology with activated sludge treatment through Veolia’s biofilm activated sludge process. Belt presses will dewater sludge before disposal.
Veolia says the system’s treatment capacity is equivalent to handling the organic pollution load generated by approximately three million people. The announcement confirms a contract award, rather than commissioning of the treatment facility.
