JSW Energy has added 1,466 MW of generation capacity, taking its total installed generation capacity to approximately 14,920 MW.
The additional capacity comes from multiple projects commissioned by the company as it continues to expand its electricity-generation portfolio.
JSW Energy has been developing generation capacity across renewable and conventional power projects, with investments covering solar, wind, hydro and thermal generation.
The company has been targeting significant growth in installed capacity as India’s electricity demand continues to rise.
The latest additions form part of the company’s wider capacity expansion programme.
New generation projects require extensive supporting infrastructure in addition to the main generation equipment.
Depending on the technology, this can include substations, transformers, switchgear, power evacuation systems, control and automation equipment, water systems and other balance-of-plant facilities.
Renewable projects also require grid-connected infrastructure to transfer electricity from generation sites into the transmission network.
The increase in installed capacity comes as India continues to add generation infrastructure to meet rising electricity demand.
Industrial production, manufacturing, urbanisation and data-centre development are among the factors contributing to increasing power requirements.
At the same time, the country’s generation mix is changing, with renewable energy accounting for an increasing share of new capacity additions.
JSW Energy has been increasing its renewable generation portfolio while continuing to operate conventional generation assets.
The latest capacity addition takes the company closer to its longer-term generation targets.
Further projects are under development and are expected to increase the company’s installed capacity over the coming years.
